At Carlow University, we know that students sometimes need help on their educational journeys. Carlow offers these support services.
Center for Academic Achievement (CAA)
The CAA, located in Grace Library, Room 427, offers tutoring and workshop opportunities for adult students including scheduling
evening appointment hours, primarily in writing and mathematics. Center staff and tutors also work with students to develop study
and testing strategies, note taking, research skills, goal setting, time management, and computing basics. Because so much of the CAP
and WEC coursework for adults is fast paced and compressed, it is best for adult students to seek assistance from the CAA as early
as possible at 412-578-6146.
Coursework for Adults Returning to College
The Center for Academic Achievement offers three courses for adult students who are beginning college for the first time
or who have a limited number of transfer credits and would benefit from essential skills development before continuing with
Carlow’s curriculum. These courses are: CAA 105: College Study Strategies; CAA 150: Adults Returning to College; and CAA 151:
Mathematics Fundamentals. For more information about these courses, please call the Center for Academic Achievement at
412-578-6146.
Admissions and Placement Testing
Applicants to the University may be required to take either admissions or placement tests. For more information about the
testing process, the format of the tests, and the guidelines that specify who tests, please contact the Adult Degree Center at
412-578-6092.
The Career Center
The Career Center is committed to offering a comprehensive career development program consisting of programs and services designed to ensure students of Carlow University make a successful transition from education to employment.
